FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS CAR DETAILING?

The term 'car detailing' includes the process of thorough cleaning, restoration (such as paint correction / polishing) and finishing of a vehicle, with the aim of bringing it back to absolute showroom condition. Every nook and cranny is literally addressed in detail. Both the interior and exterior can be treated. Traditional car cleaning companies and car washes aim to clean as many cars as possible in as little time as possible. While these services generally perform simple tasks, they often cause paint damage, wash scratches and other imperfections due to improper washing techniques. Unlike these companies, we value quality over quantity. At Moncton Auto Detailing we repair this damage and we strive for perfection. We achieve the very best results by using the best materials, products and techniques.

IS IT WORTH DETAILING MY CAR?

A comprehensive car detailing procedure can help make your vehicle appear almost as good as new. Everyday usage of cars results in the gradual accumulation of debris and clutter, which negatively affects your vehicle’s looks. While some car owners prefer to clean their cars themselves, it’s preferable to perform a complete auto detailing. It’s worth the cost, especially when done by the car detailing experts. Professional auto detailers know which type of cleaning supplies are needed to make your vehicle look sparkling clean again. Always use superior quality car detailing products to clean your car’s interior and exterior to get the best cleaning results.

WHAT ARE SWIRLS/SWIRL MARKS?

Swirls or swirl marks are simply super fine scratches in the paint. They are usually caused by wiping the car with a dry towel (usually when it is dusty) or improper washing techniques. Swirls are often most noticeable on black or dark cars because the sides of the scratches reflect light.

CAN A CLAY BAR/CLAY TREATMENT REMOVE SCRATCHES?

A surface treatment with a clay bar only removes excess dirt (such as tree sap/resin and other contaminants) from the paintwork that cannot be removed by washing the car. A clay treatment therefore does not remove scratches.

WHAT IS A CERAMIC COATING AND HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

Ceramic coating, also known as glass coating, forms an extra hard top layer over the existing paint layer of the car. This layer adheres to the surface and not only keeps your car clean and shiny for longer, but is also more scratch resistant and extremely water and dirt repellent. The average lifespan of a coating, with proper maintenance, has a lifespan of up to 3 years (depending on which package), much longer than a traditional wax! However, this lifespan varies from car to car. Some factors that can affect the lifespan: How and how often is the car washed? Is the car driven daily? Is the car always outside or in a garage? For correct maintenance, see our manual for correct washing techniques.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE MY CAR DETAILED?

This all depends on how often you drive your vehicle. If you have a daily driver, it's best to get the exterior professionally detailed every 3-6 months. An annual detail is a good idea for classic or newer models that will be going up for sale within the year. The inside should also be cleaned every 1-3 months to keep your vehicle looking its best. This includes interior cleaning products to remove dirt, mildew, and odors. This service is a wonderful way to keep your car looking new and protection for your paintwork for years - even decades!
